Milan/Rome [ENA] The Museum of Cultures in Milan ( MUDEC) will host the final conference of the European Research Project TRACES (Horizon 2020) which, through an innovative research method based on an artistic / ethnographic approach, aims to develop a systematic analysis of the challenges, opportunities and practices related to the transmission of a past and controversial heritage in contemporary Europe.

Transmitting Contentious Cultural Heritages with the Arts: From Intervention to Co-Production will conclude its three years research programme with a two-day event conference, “Transmitting Contentious Cultural Heritages with the Arts.” The symposium is conceived to provide a critical overview on the main findings and results ensuing from the investigations and the Creative Co-productions developed within the project, as well as to boost the critical debate about the transmission of contentious heritages and the process of “Reflexive Europeanisation.” The meeting intends to promote an inter-disciplinary and forward-looking discussion aimed at opening new perspectives based on the Project outcomes.

Furthermore, the symposium intends to propose a critical reading of the main research outcomes and, in particular, of the experience of five artistic co-productions (Creative Co-productions) offering a good chance for interdisciplinary debate on the conservation and communication of difficult cultural heritages . The project will end with a two-day conference entitled "Transmitting Contentious Cultural Heritages with the Arts," which will take place in Milan on 17 and 18 January 2019, respectively at MUDEC and at the Milan Polytechnic. The final event will reach its climax in the inauguration of the exhibition "Contentious Objects / Ashamed Subjects", curated by Suzana Milevska at the Politecnico di Milano Project Gallery
