Berlin [ENA] The media network N-ost offers grants of up to EUR8,000 for European cross-border reporting projects. The Berlin-based NGO says international teams of freelancers and staff journalists can apply for the funds until 29 September. Grants will be disbursed through its program "Reporters in the field". Two team members must participate in the Berlin kick-off meeting 29 November to 01 December.

Teams and stories must be based in at least two of the following countries: Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine and United Kingdom. The money can be used to cover travel and remuneration.

Justifying the grant N-ost says in a statement from the European Parliament elections to Brexit to the CumEx-Files, all signs pointed to the continued significance of crossborder journalism to make sense of complex transnational issues. For reporters who wanted to dig deeper and collaborate with others to cover relevant European stories that didn’t stop at borders the “Reporters in the Field” grants would be suitable assistance. Teams could apply for research grants for a story of their choice, to receive training and feedback from experts and become part of a pan-European network of crossborder practitioners.

“Reporters in the Field” is supported by the Robert Bosch foundation. The network offers members and other journalists from East and West workshops, networking events and research opportunities, especially within the context of its media conference, which takes place annually in a different Eastern-European city. Albeit through receptions on media policy, publications, or opinion pieces, N-ost is dedicated to quality foreign reporting. Contributing to this end is the networking project, Legal Leaks, whose goal is to strengthen the standards of freedom of information acquisitions. N-ost cooperation partners and supporters include Transparency International, the TAZ and FAZ daily newspapers, Allianz, Renovabis (Catholic Church) and OSCE.
